Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) Operator training is approved as meeting the requirements of IALA VTS Operator V-103/1.
Note: in order to meet the IALA specified learning outcomes, within the nominated course duration the course will have a significant Recognition of Prior Learning process.
Current VTS Operators who meet the prerequisites below.
Participants must meet all of the following course entry requirements:
1. Working at a VTS Centre for a continuous period of not less than 12 months.
2. Hold a minimum level of Master <24m NC (or Master Class 5, Skipper Grade 3); or undertake the VTS Basic Pre-Assessment Workshop and hold a Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP).
3. Letter from a VTS Authority attesting to: Fluency in the English language; and Successful participation an emergency exercise during the past 12 months.
Please provide evidence of maritime qualifications and work history for consideration.
Participants meeting the prerequisite criteria will be invited to complete a pre-commencement training needs assessment, which will be conducted at AMC.
The assessment will consist of a written answer paper (multiple-choice/short answer) to a series of questions related to the 8 elements of the AMC VTSO-BT programme:
Upon successful completion of this phase, candidates will be awarded with their V-103/1 certificate.
Full attendance and participation in ALL activities during the course will satisfy the required performance criteria.
