Personal Survival Techniques

Course also known as: PST

Personal Survival Techniques provides participants with the knowledge and skills to be able to survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment.

This course is one of the components required to obtain an AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training (STCW Reg VI/1), the mandatory minimum qualification required to serve on board vessels in international waters.   

BLENDED DELIVERY COURSE STRUCTURE   

Online Theory Component 

The online theory component is delivered through the University of Tasmania's learning management system, MyLO. The course requires a reasonable internet connection and a webcam to complete the assessment.   

The online theory components consist of the following theory module:

  • Personal Survival Techniques   

Please note – the online theory learning and assessment will take approximately 12 hours to complete and will need to be successfully completed at least 2 working days prior to attending AMC for the practical components.


On-Campus Practical Component 

The on-campus practical component consists of the following module:

  • Personal Survival Techniques (0.5 days)


CERTIFICATION

The following AMSA approved certificate will be issued by AMC to participants who successfully complete* the course:

  • Personal Survival Techniques (STCW Reg VI/1 and Code Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-1)

*100% attendance, full participation in practical exercises and successful completion of all online theory assessments is required.


Australian residents who successfully complete this course will also receive the following Statement of Attainment:

  • MARF046 Survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment. 

MARF046 is a nationally recognised unit of competency under the Australian Maritime College (RTO ID 60131).


APPROVED BY

Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) as meeting the requirements laid down in the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).
