AMC Search offers Australia's best value and most extensive STCW refresher training.
In order to meet demand and suit individuals' schedules, AMC Search is offering monthly refresher courses over 2020. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to temporarily postpone all face-to-face training.
This action has been approved by AMSA who are using the provision contained within Marine Order 70 section 15 to extend seafarer certificates for up to six months. AMSA will do this if satisfied that the person does not meet revalidation requirements due to circumstances beyond their control due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Please visit the AMSA website for instructions on how to apply for an extension.
If you need to book face-to-face training, please visit our training page, find the course you need and wait list yourself for the course you want to undertake. No fees will be required at the time of booking, but it will secure your place for when the campus is ready for face-to-face training and demand for training ramps back up. We envisage a significant surge in demand so please get yourself on the wait list as soon as possible.

Our world-class facilities are within two hours of 70% of the Australian population.
In Launceston, the survival aspects of our training are carried out in our designated, indoor survival training pool.
The survival pool includes a mock-up of a ship’s superstructure, which is complete with life raft launching facilities, and the ability to be blacked out for simulated night exercises and to create water turbulence, rain, wind noise and simulated storm effects.
Unlike the vast majority of maritime training providers, we have access to our own firefighting training ground for the firefighting component of all refresher training.
The firefighting ground is equipped with a wide range of modern firefighting equipment. It includes specialised areas for fighting liquid and gas fires, fires in helicopters, as well as fires within a ship superstructure using self-contained breathing apparatus.
All our courses in Launceston spend at least a full day firefighting. Many providers offer simulated firefighting training, but in our experience there’s nothing like getting hands-on at the centre to really update your skills.
Ferry company TT-Line, T/A Spirit of Tasmania, are long-term clients of AMC Search. Marine Manager Malcolm Merry shares their experience using our STCW Refresher training services in this video.
We’ve been providing maritime training for over 30 years – and our experience shows. The vast majority of our instructors have extensive seafaring backgrounds, and 98% of the students surveyed reported they were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of the teaching.Read the news article
I live in Western Australia however have always travelled to AMC Search to revalidate my Certificate of Competency due to the professionalism of the AMC Search team, the course material and the lecturers' relevant knowledge of all the subjects. The accommodation and the on-campus eating venue are convenient and well-staffed and the simulator centre is excellent. Thank you AMC Search.
If you’re revalidating a Master or Deck Officer Certificate of Competency, you’ll spend time in our world-class simulation centre, using six ship operations cubicles and an 18-seat electronic chart display lab to practice high speed craft operations, collision avoidance and more.Centre for Maritime Simulation
