Engineering our Future

Help AMC recruit the next generation of maritime engineers

Rapid Decline in Student Numbers

Australia is embarking on its biggest naval ship building program since World War II, with over $90 billion being invested in the design and construction of new ships, submarines, shipyard infrastructure and workforce development.

These decadal long programs are placing significant demand for a highly educated and skilled sovereign workforce, now and into the future.

Despite the Federal Government investment in shipbuilding programs and broader industry commitments, the number of people choosing to study maritime engineering degrees is at an all-time low.

The decline represents a real threat to the Australian maritime industry and sovereign capability needs, and if the trend continues, will compound existing workforce supply pressures. There will simply be not enough graduates to meet the demands of Australian industry.

How to Stop the Decline

AMC is the only institution in Australia equipped to deliver the sector with the volume and quality of graduates required long-term.

The only way we can attract students in the volume required is to run bespoke student recruitment campaigns that tell the story of the benefits of studying maritime engineering at AMC.

However, this is expensive and we can not do it alone.

Therefore, AMC is calling on industry to become a co-investor in the future of an Australian sovereign engineering capability, by helping to fund a five-year targeted student recruitment campaign commencing in Q3 2022.

Invest in the Future

Through AMC Search, a not-for-profit charity organisation, AMC is seeking funding support from industry that will be used to help pay for nationally focused, targeted student recruitment campaigns. The extra funding required is $250,000, and this will part fund a range of activities and programs of engagement including:

  • Regional outreach maritime engagement activities targeting Year 9-12 students
  • Focused AMC and industry brand presence at career and employment expos
  • A Maritime Engineering ‘Maths in Schools’ program that will be delivered in south-east Queensland, New South Wales, regional and coastal Victoria, South Australia, and south-west Western Australia
  • Dedicated, individual engagement activities to ensure long-term contact with, and interest of, potential student

To contribute, we are asking industry to support us in one of the following ways:

Platinum Supporter

AMC is seeking the support of three Platinum supporters, investing $30,000

Gold Supporter

AMC is seeking the support of five Gold Supporters, investing $15,000

Silver Supporter

AMC is seeking the support of ten Silver Supporters, investing $5,000

Bronze Supporter

AMC is seeking the support of Bronze Supporters who are being asked to invest what they can to the campaign up to the value of $2,000.
