World Heritage Cruises operates passenger catamarans on Macquarie Harbour, where they visit the World Heritage Listed Gordon River, where wash rules apply to protect the sensitive riverbanks from erosion.
AMC Search has collaborated with World Heritage Cruises for over 20 years, conducting testing that has led to the development of low-wash vessels and helped set the benchmarks by which all cruise vessels operating on the Gordon River continue to be assessed.
In 2015, AMC Search was once again engaged by World Heritage Cruises to predict the allowable speeds while cruising the Gordon River for its newest vessel, a 33m LOA passenger catamaran.
Using a proprietary numerical modeling Wave Wake Prediction tool, Associate Professor Gregor Macfarlane made predictions for three key waves generated by the vessel at three different speeds.
The results confirmed that the vessel could safely operate at speeds up to 5 knots in the Lower Gordon River while complying with the wash rules.
The new vessel, called Harbour Master, entered service in 2016.
