Demanding careers were no barrier for two AMC Search employees who were recently awarded specialist Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees.

Training Administration Supervisor, Estelle Hudson, and Projects & Quality Manager, Nic Bender, both combined distance learning with full-time work to achieve their MBAs in Maritime and Logistics Management from the Australian Maritime College.
AMC Search CEO, Dean Cook, congratulated the pair and explained the importance of continued professional development for staff.
“We’re tremendously proud of Nic’s and Estelle’s achievements and impressed at the years of hard work that have gone in to achieving their MBAs.
“Professional development for staff is critical to the continued success of AMC Search. Nic and Estelle are now equipped with high-level management skills specific to the maritime and logistics industries, and their knowledge is already helping us optimise and grow our business.”
While Estelle and Nic both found the work/life/study balance a challenge, they say the benefits for themselves – and for AMC Search – were worth the effort.
“My role at AMC Search has a constant work flow, which meant as an off-campus, distance student, my study just had to fit in wherever there were gaps,” Nic said.
“The result was many late nights toiling away on readings, assignments and exams – and a strong test of my time management skills!”
Estelle explains that as well as the traditional areas of management, her MBA has helped her broaden her knowledge in the maritime sector.
“One of my final units – Finance for Decision Making – was particularly useful in developing my understanding of managerial finance, and what is involved in preparing and analysing financial statements and budgeting,” Estelle said.
“Plus my studies definitely broadened my awareness of the maritime industry and in particular, issues surrounding both domestic and international trade.”
Nic adds that the MBA has already helped him implement solutions that will help AMC Search better serve the maritime industry.
“By contextualising learnings to the operations of AMCS, I have already identified and implemented internal procedural and structural improvements, and generated ideas and solutions that AMCS can offer to help solve industry problems.”
