Polar Code - Advanced Training

Advanced Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters

In accordance with STCW Regulation V/4, Masters and Chief Mates must hold a Certificate in Advanced Training for ships operating in polar waters, as required by the IMO's Polar Code.

Who should participate?

Advanced Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters is designed for Masters and Chief Mates on ships operating in polar waters who already hold an AMSA-approved certificate in Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters.

Course Details 

The course will be delivered by classroom theory sessions and practical sessions in the Ship Simulator at the Australian Maritime College. A variety of assessment methods are used in the course, appropriate to the learning outcome and the requirements of the national competency standards, including: Written assessment Group discussions and presentation Practical Simulation exercises.

Course Entry Prerequisite

Please note the following prerequisite is for entry onto the course and evidence must be provided upon enrolment:

  • STCW Certificate of Competency for International Waters; and 
  •  STCW Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters Certificate

Certification

The following certificate will be issued by AMC to participants who successfully complete* the course:

  • Advanced Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters (AMSA approved), meeting the requirements of STCW Reg V/4 and Code Section A-V/4 paragraph 2, Table A-V/4-2

*100% attendance, full participation and completion of all exercises is required.

AMSA approved, in accordance with Marine Order 70 (Seafarer Certification) 2014.
