Hydrodynamics for Cutter Masters (Online)

Online

This course has been developed following incidents in which pilot cutters have reported difficulty maintaining a safe position alongside a large vessel. The course aims to explain the hydrodynamic effects surrounding a ship as it moves through the water, the further effects that occur when ships pass close to each other, and finally, how this alters as a ship turns. We will also look at ways of minimising the impact of these forces, and also at the change in the effects that occur as the position of the pilot ladder is changed along the ship’s side.
