Advanced Marine Pilots Training (AMPT)

The Advanced Marine Pilots Training (AMPT) Course provides participants with an in-depth knowledge of the factors affecting Marine Pilotage today, with a strong focus on the human condition.

AMPT training is delivered by Human Factors specialist Ben Brooks and Marine Pilot Peter Dwyer and award-winning maritime law specialist Captain John Kavanagh using Australia's most advanced Marine Pilot training facilities.

Who should Participate?

The course is designed for marine pilots, ship masters and senior deck officers, as well as managers of shipping companies and authorities. 

Course Entry Prerequisite

The following prerequisite is for entry onto the course and evidence must be provided upon enrolment:

  • STCW Certificate of Competency for International Waters


The course is tailored for the pilotage sector and topics covered include:

  • Human performance including fatigue, stress, and fitness for duty.
  • How to maintain cognitive health and extend your pilotage career.
  • The integration of port teams into the Pilotage process.
  • Check pilotage principles and tools.
