Other potential Question
I don’t think I have the right pre-requisites
There are always pathways and AMC faculty are available to chat and work out how to enable students to study at AMC.
Note: there are always pathways – we can always assist!
The Schools Recommendation Program offers year 12 students the chance to receive an early offer for a place at university, providing peace of mind and the freedom to focus on finishing your studies. Please mention this to all the potential students you speak with at an expo stand.
Applications open 26 June and can be submitted until 4 October, and offers will continue to be released in rounds, up until 30 October 2025.
AMC has 2+2 agreements with Flinders University, Edith Cowan University and Auckland University of Technology
This program enables local students to commence their studies at one of those local universities and finish their degree at AMC in Launceston.
Year 1 + 2 @ Flinders, ECU or AUT
Year 3 + 4 @ AMC (Launceston)
They apply to either Flinders University, Edith Cowan University or Auckland University of Technology through their application process.
However, they are also encouraged to contact AMC Course Coordinator Nick Johnson (his business cards are supplied with your expo kit).
The AMC Course code is: 24V4
Other frequently asked questions and answers about the 2+2 Program
Are the first two years aligned with the overall AMC maritime engineering degree?
Yes, year 1 + 2 are specifically mapped to the same learning outcomes. The Course Directors of Engineering of both home university and AMC work together to ensure there are no gaps.
Is the 2+2 version of the degree accredited with Engineering Australia?
Yes
Is there a difference in year 3 for the 2+2 students vs the AMC students?
Yes, historically there has been a learning curve, as the AMC students have had exposure and access to the world class facilities.
The AMC Faculty provide extra support and by year 4 there is essentially no difference between the 2+2 and AMC students.
Does the home university and AMC faculty talk to each other?
Yes, the course coordinators have regularly scheduled meetings.
Will I get to meet AMC faculty before I move to Tasmania?
Yes, the AMC faculty travel to all 2+2 institutions to meet with the other faculty and face to face with the 2+2 students each year.
Is this a new program?
No, this program has been going on for 10-15 years. About 10-20% of the cohort are 2+2 students.
Will the AMC students be welcoming to the 2+2 students in year 3?
Yes! It is a very welcoming environment, and the traditional AMC students are very welcoming to the 2+2 transfers. There isn’t a “us” and “them” environment.
Who gives me my degree?
It’ll say AMC and home university on the degree (Dual badge testamur).
Can I do one year at my home university and then transfer?
The model is built around a 2+2. If there is a special circumstance, please get in touch with Nick Johnson, AMC Course Coordinator directly to discuss the individual circumstance.
Do I have to live on campus in year 3? Will everyone already be living off campus with their mates?
Both options are available (on campus / off campus). Every new cohort to AMC typically lives on campus, no matter if they come in year 1 or year 3. Lots of students will live on campus for all 4 years of their degree.
What if I don’t know the answer to a question?
