Prize for port simulation services at maritime industry awards
AMC Search has received a national industry award for its work using maritime simulations to help organisations design great ports.
The Highly Commended prize was awarded in the Maritime Services category of the 22 Australian Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards, held last week in Sydney.
The judges recognised how the bespoke simulation services provided by AMC Search have helped over 40 organisations optimise their port development or port feasibility projects.
AMC Search General Manager – Simulations, Matt Best, works with organisations to create models of a port or wharf based on concept or engineering diagrams.
A DNV Class A Full Mission Bridge Simulator is used to let real-world vessel operators carry out simulated runs of the design, navigating the future port or wharf at the very early stages of a project.
Using simulated runs, port or wharf designs can then be proven to work – or amended before costly re-designs are required.
Matt Best said that he was proud to be recognised for the important contribution that maritime simulations provide to port development and feasibility projects.
“It’s fantastic to be recognised with a national award for our port simulation work.
“More and more organisations are realising that they can save significant time and money by using maritime simulations to test their port or wharf designs during the early stages of a project.
“They turn to us because we have access to some of the most powerful simulation technology available – including 4K projection displays – but also because of our flexible and responsive approach.
“With all modelling, simulation and debriefing done in-house, we can work together with clients to meet their exact needs, however large or small their project, in an affordable way.”

The annual Australian Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards recognises successes in areas of shipping, transport, global logistics, environmental and safety initiatives, customs clearance and more.
The award winners are chosen by an expert judging panel including Rod Nairn AM, CEO Shipping Australia; Michael Gallacher, CEO, Ports Australia; Brian Lovell, CEO Australian Federation of International Forwarders; and Paul Zalai, Director, Freight Trade Alliance.
About our Maritime Simulation Centre
The Australian Maritime College’s state-of-the-art Maritime Simulation Centre includes a Full Mission Bridge simulator – a full-scale mock-up of a ship and its surroundings – as well as 360 degree tug simulators, dynamic positioning simulators, ship operation cubicles and an engine room simulator.
The simulation facilities and AMC’s training and research experts are available for consulting, training and research via AMC Search.
