State-of-the-art simulation facilities underpinning immersive maritime training and engineering consultancy in Sydney.
The Australian Maritime College’s world-class simulation capabilities and expertise are now available to industry in Sydney, NSW, via a dedicated Maritime Simulations Unit.
Unique within the state, the Maritime Simulations Unit delivers highly realistic simulated training for vessel navigation, Vessel Traffic Services and Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS).
Via the unit, local and national industry personnel gain remote access to the world-class simulation capabilities and pedagogical expertise developed over decades at the Australian Maritime College.
The Maritime Simulations Unit is available for scheduled short courses and bespoke company-specific training, consultancy and facility hire.
The facility is housed within the AMC Sydney Study Centre, which has excellent client facilities including a kitchen, meeting rooms and Wi-Fi.
A web-enabled Kongsberg Maritime Polaris Bridge Simulator provides training and engineering consulting services to clients without the overhead of travel to a dedicated simulation centre.
The Bridge Simulator delivers ship handling and navigation training to clients including manning agencies, port operators and shipping companies.
The system is also used for marine and offshore engineering consultancy projects including port development and channel design. and port development solutions.
The facility provides remote access to world class simulated training and modelling software and specialists at the Australian Maritime College’s Centre for Maritime Simulations in Tasmania.
The facility is based on advanced Kongsberg Maritime Polaris software and provides access to an extensive library of ship and port models by Kongsberg and in-house at AMC.
AMC Search is Australia’s only AMSA-accredited Vessel Traffic Services training provider, and it’s VTS simulator supports a highly realistic training environment for VTS operations and management.
The VTS Centre of Excellence provides a modern training environment coupled with a VTS simulator that offers full communications capabilities with real-world scenarios.
It includes a full-scale, two position VTS Centre with standard tool set-up to support decision making.
The VTS Simulator also provides a visual view of the navigational situation of the VTS area.
Based on the latest Transas Navi-harbour Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) solution, simulated activities are conducted in a generic port environment and developed to meet specific training objectives.
The VTS Centre of Excellence fully meets requirements for simulation as identified in the IALA Recommendations for VTS Training and supporting guidelines on the use of simulation training in VTS.
Australia’s only fully functional Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) simulator.
The GMDSS Simulation Lab accurately imitates actual ship-to-ship communications and ship-to-shore stations using highly realistic simulated terrestrial and satellite communication systems.
It familiarises trainees with correct operation of a variety of GMDSS equipment by featuring software that emulates a wide range of recognised GMDSS equipment, from legacy systems through to the latest touch-screen satellite phones.
