Being able to fly your drone is just the beginning. If you want to operate a drone under 2kgs commercially you are going to need insurance. This course covers key aspects of how to safely plan and carry out a drone mission. Successful completion of the course will make you eligible for insurance with QBE Australia.
This course is used as a training induction program for organisations using (or intending to use) sub 2kg drones in their operations. It covers the key area of Hazards (situational awareness), Battery management, and the Law (legal requirements for drone use).
The course has two parts, an online part and a practical part. The online part can be done in your own time. You can start completing the online part as soon as you are enrolled. Depending on your current knowledge level the online part could be completed in about a day, however once enrolled you will have up to 100 days to complete.
The practical component consists of a flight assessment that can take a few hours (for already skilled pilots) to a day (for beginners).
The course is contextualised for the maritime industry, including considerations of use of drones near the ocean, activities tailored to suit a maritime environment, and learning materials reflecting the environment.
The Institute For Drone Technology™ (RTO No. 45181) helps individuals and organisations understand the revolutionary benefits of drone (UAV) technology, and gain the skills to implement drone (UAV) technology safely and effectively in their workplaces and wider enterprises. The Institute For Drone Technology™ is a Civil Aviation Safety Authority training provider.
Anyone in the maritime industry who wishes to operate a drone under 2kgs commercially. Perfect for sub-2kg pilots wanting to turn their passion into a career.
You will need to bring personal protective equipment to the course, including sunglasses, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, a hat and water bottle. You do not need your own drone to do the course, however it is highly recommended that you do have one for practice in your own time.
