IGF Code Basic Training

The International Code of Safety for Ships Using Gases or Other Low-Flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code) provides mandatory provisions for the arrangement, installation, control and monitoring of machinery, equipment and systems using low-flashpoint fuel to minimise the risk to the ship, its crew and the environment, having regard to the nature of the fuels involved.

The IGF Code is the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low-Flashpoint Fuels, as defined in SOLAS regulation II-1/2.29. The course is designed to cover requisite training embodied in STCW Regulation V/3, paragraph 5 in accordance with their capacity, duties and responsibilities as set out in table A-V/3-1.

Who should participate?

The course is designed for seafarers responsible for designated safety duties associated with the care, use, or in an emergency response to the fuel on board ships subject to the IGF Code and as such are required to hold a certificate in basic training for service on ships subject to the IGF Code.

Course Entry Prerequisite

Please note the prerequisite is for entry onto the course and evidence must be provided upon enrolment:

• At minimum an STCW issued Certificate of Safety Training

Certification

The following certificate will be issued by AMC to participants who successfully complete* the course:

• IGF Code Basic Training (AMSA approved), meeting the requirements of STCW Reg V/3 and Code Section A-V/3 paragraph 1, Table A-V/3-1

Equipment Required

IGF Code Basic Training is provided using the University of Tasmania’s online learning environment, MyLO.

The course involves the viewing of multiple videos, which require a reasonable internet connection speed. Certain components will need to be completed on a desktop/laptop computer, and we suggest using Google Chrome as your browser.  To complete the final assessment, you will need access to a web camera.

Computer setup: Check your computer and/or browser are set up to enable MyLO to work properly by running a browser check.
