Advanced Marine Pilots Training (AMPT)
The Advanced Marine Pilots Training (AMPT) Course is designed to provide participants with an in-depth knowledge of the factors affecting Marine Pilotage today, with a strong focus on the human condition.
The subjects covered include:
- The science behind the human cognitive capabilities and the potential for decline
- Human performance including fatigue, stress, and fitness for duty
- The impact of VTS on Pilotage
- Effective mentoring and debriefing techniques
- The legal aspects of Pilotage
- Current techniques and technology used during Pilotage
- The establishment and maintenance of an effective Safety Culture
The content is delivered through a mix of theory, discussions, case studies, and practical exercises in the AMC Centre for Maritime Simulations.
For candidates wishing to revalidate their Certificates of Competency, the AMPT course is scheduled to align with other revalidation components such as Revalidation Part A, Advanced Fire Fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats, GMDSS Renewal, and Medical Care Refresher, if required. The duration of the course is five days, starting at 13:00 on the first day, and finishing at 13:00 on the final day to assist in travel and rostering arrangements.

AMCS Registration Terms
To secure your enrolment, payment of 50% of the course fee is required. Cancellations up to 15 working days prior to the scheduled date will be accepted without penalty. Cancellations less than 15 working days will be subject to 100% cancellation fee.
AMCS reserves the right to cancel the course if insufficient registrations have been received by seven days from commencement of course. Any fees paid for cancelled courses will be refunded in full.
When making flight bookings please ensure you book on a fully refundable basis.
The course is conducted at the Australian Maritime College, Newnham Campus in Launceston Tasmania
Participants arriving at Launceston Airport should make their way to the Australian Maritime College, Newnham Drive, Newnham. Taxi fare from the airport is approximately $55.00.
Parking: Complimentary car parking is provided on campus in areas designated to AMCS participants and clients.
