V-103/1: VTS Basic Operator Training

This programme is intended for presently serving VTS Operators who meet the Course Entry Requirements listed in the section below:

  1. Working at a VTS Centre for a continuous period of not less than 12 months.
  2. Hold a minimum level of Master <24m NC (or Master Class 5, Skipper Grade 3); or undertake the VTS Basic Pre-Assessment Workshop
  3. Letter from a VTS Authority attesting to:
    • Fluency in the English language; and
    • Successful participation an emergency exercise during the past 12 months.

Acknowledgement of registration will be provided by return email. Confirmation of registration is provided upon payment of the course fees, and subject to AMCS Registration Terms.

AMCS Registration Terms

To secure your enrolment, payment of 50% of the course fee is required.  Cancellations up to 15 working days prior to the scheduled date will be accepted without penalty.  Cancellations less than 15 working days will be subject to 100% cancellation fee.

AMCS reserves the right to cancel the course if insufficient registrations have been received by seven days from commencement of course.  Any fees paid for cancelled courses will be refunded in full.

When making flight bookings please ensure you book on a fully refundable basis.

Pre-Commencement Assessments

Pre-course candidate assessments:

Participants meeting the prerequisite criteria will be invited to complete a pre-commencement training needs assessment, which will be conducted at AMC.

The assessment will consist of a written answer paper (multiple-choice/short answer) to a series of questions related to the 8 elements of the AMC VTSO-BT programme:

  • Language
  • Traffic Management
  • Equipment
  • Communication Coordination
  • VHF Radio
  • Personal Attributes
  • Emergency Measures

Course Aim

The course being offered by AMC is approved as meeting the requirements IALA VTS Operator V-103/1. In order to meet the IALA specified learning outcomes, within the nominated course duration, the course will have a significant Recognition of Prior Learning process.

Certificate issue prerequisite

This programme is intended for presently serving VTS Operators who meet the Course Prerequisites listed above.

Certification

Upon successful completion of this phase, candidates will be awarded with their V-103-1 certificate. Candidates then apply to AMSA for their Training Record Book.

Full attendance and participation in ALL activities during the course will satisfy the required performance criteria.

Location Information

The course is conducted at the Australian Maritime College, Newnham Campus in Launceston Tasmania

Participants arriving at Launceston Airport should make their way to the Australian Maritime College, Newnham Drive, Newnham.  Taxi fare from the airport is approximately $55.00.

Parking:  Complimentary car parking is provided on campus in areas designated to AMCS participants and clients.
