Port Operations Simulation Training program

AMC Search has been working very closely with the Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC) to assist in the development of the ports Joint Port Operations Simulation Training (JPOST) program, the first of its type to be conducted at the Australian Maritime College (AMC).

The intention of the program was to develop a course focussed on the Vessel Traffic Service Operators (VTSOs) of the Port of Melbourne to allow them to refresh the appropriate knowledge required to maintain the currency of their relevant IALA V103 Certificates.  In addition to the VTS specific training, AMC’s Integrated Marine Simulator was configured to simulate real time port operations using a number of scenarios, vessels, and stakeholders – including the PoMC Harbour Master, VTSO’s, Pilots, Exempt Masters, Shipping Operators and Towage Providers operating in the Port of Melbourne.

The first program was successfully conducted in February 2014 and was well received by PoMC and its stakeholders.  As a result further JPOST programs are planned to be conducted at AMC, with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) expressing an interest in observing the next training schedule.  PoMC will be seeking AMSA accreditation for the program.
