MARITIME TRANSPORT INDUSTRY FORUM

AMC conducted a national Maritime Transport Industry Forum on 5 February, 2007. Some 80 high level industry representatives participated in the event, which was organized by AMC Search on behalf of AMC.

Conducted as part of AMC's strategy to strengthen its lines of communication and interaction with industry, the event received a very positive response from the overwhelming majority of participants. The Forum was also an opportunity for the recently appointed President/CEO of AMC, Professor Malek Pourzanjani to meet with industry representatives from all states and territories of Australia.

In the couple of months since the Forum, Professor Pourzanjani has made several follow-up visits and discussions with participants, and Australian Maritime Transport Industry representatives generally. Professor Pourzanjani is also in the process of implementing two significant suggestions agreed upon at the Forum:

1. The establishment of a Maritime Transport Research and Policy Centre to act as a national "think tank" in fields such as maritime logistics and the inter-modal transport chain, and to develop policies and advise governments.

2. The establishment of an industry advisory group which would assist AMC to better align its maritime education, training and research activities with industry needs and priorities.
