Maritime Industry Course for DoTARS

A two day Introduction to the Maritime Industry course was recently conducted for 16 personnel from the Department of Transport and Regional Services. Based in Canberra, most of the DoTARS personnel were relatively new to their jobs, and with diverse backgrounds which did not necessarily include extensive maritime transport industry experience. The course covered a lot of information in two days, including examination of the following topics:

- Ship and Maritime Terminology
- Ship Registration
- Nautical and International Regulations
- Carriage of Cargo
- Vessel Operations

BRM and High Speed Navigation for Customs Service

Two courses specifically prepared for the Australian Customs Service have recently been delivered to Officers of the Department's eight Bay Class Patrol boats in recent months.

During the five days of the course, AMC's six Ship Operations Simulators were used extensively to cover the following components of Bridge Resource Management and High Speed Navigation training.

Topics include:

- Radar/ARPA
- Electronic Navigation Systems
- Passage Planning, including High Speed
- BRM Concepts/Leadership and Management
- High Speed Environment
- High Speed Collision Avoidance
- High Speed Craft Accidents
- Radar Operations

AMC, through its lead Maritime Resource Management (MRM) instructor, Captain Ian Rodrigues, is an approved training provider listed by the Swedish Club.

Bulk Liquid Handling Course for Exxon Mobil

One of AMC Search's short courses, Bulk Liquid Handling - Ship to Shore and Ship to Ship Transfer, was recently tailored and conducted to suit the requirements of Exxon Mobil.

AMC Lecturer Matt Best conducted the intensive two day course, designed for personnel engaged at the Mobil refinery, Altona, Victoria. Topics covered included:

- Tanker Development, Structure and Design
- Pumps and Pipeline Systems

Offshore Lifeboat Coxswains Course - Malaysia

International petroleum company Tioman Drilling Sdn. Bhd. recently contracted AMC Search to run an on-site Coxswains course. Conducted by former AMC Instructor Chris Shea, the course was run for 24 trainees working on a rig off the coast of East Malaysia. The course went smoothly, under the usual high professional standards of instruction by Chris.
