It's not every day small companies get to host a visit from two Director Generals from the Australian Defence Department, plus a Project Director but that's what happened to AMC Search on 8 February, 2006.
The high powered Defence delegation comprised:
- Commodore Kevin Taylor: Director General Pacific, International Policy Branch, Pacific.
- Mr Phill Brown: Director General Minor War Vessels. Defence Material Organisation.
- Commander Mike Sander: Director Pacific Patrol Boat Systems Program Office.

The delegation was escorted by the Patrol Boat Project's Technical and Training Manager Mr Greg Lamont, and given that AMC Search is in the early commencement stage of a new five year contract with PPB Project, the visit was a timely one. It enabled the Defence delegation to view the AMC facilities, and to inspect the $1.2 million of Defence training aids located at AMC to assist with the PPB training program.
Importantly, it also enabled the visitors to meet with the AMC Search CEO and staff, and with instructors and technical support staff.
Commodore Taylor emphasized the continued importance of the Pacific Patrol Boat Project generally, as it remains the largest regional Defence Cooperation program ever undertaken by the Department.
In addition to the renewal of the AMC Search training program, Defence is currently undertaking a major overhaul and refit of all the 22 Pacific Patrol Boats which will extend their operational capability for at least a further ten years.
