Towing Tank

The AMC Towing Tank is the largest and only commercially operating towing tank in Australia and New Zealand. The facility is used by students undertaking Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture or Ocean Engineering) during their courses.

Waves can be produced by a hydraulically driven wavemaker positioned at one end of the tank. A wide variety of waveforms can be generated by the computer controlled wavemaker paddle.

The centre also offers a commercial consultancy service through AMCS and to date has conducted over 250 projects for vessels and ocean structures operating throughout the world. Testing has covered a wide range of vessels including numerous generations of high speed wavepiercing catamarans, the Sydney Harbour Rivercats, the patrol vessels for the Australian Customs Service and several America’s Cup campaigns.
