Course Aim
A Nautical Knowledge preparation package has been developed to prepare those participants who do not hold the required maritime qualifications to meet the Nautical Knowledge (Module 4) pre-requisite of the VTS Basic Operator course.
The package is suitable only for participants who are currently working in a VTS centre. Participants work through two workbooks provided under the mentoring of a suitable supervisor, who is nominated by their Port; the package contents are reinforced during the AMC VTS Basic course.
There are two options:
1. Participants complete the two workbooks (or equivalent) before attending the course, and undertake a comprehensive Nautical Knowledge assessment upon arrival.
2. Participants complete the two workbooks then attend a 2 day refresher course, which will reinforce the specific components of Nautical Knowledge relevant to VTS operators. The 2 day refresher course will be scheduled immediately prior to the VTS Basic course at AMC.
Certificate
The Nautical Knowledge Preparation course is aimed solely at meeting the VTS Nautical Knowledge requirements. The course is not intended to fully meet the learning outcomes of Nautical Knowledge components of other AMC approved courses, and there is no certificate issued upon completion.
