Large Tonnage Vessel Upgrade
Course Prerequisites
An AMSA issued Certificate of Competency as Master <3000GT (subject to approval), or a Chief Mate <3000 GT.
Course Aim
This course is designed to familiarise participants with the handling characteristics of larger tonnage vessels and to instruct students, and assess their competency, in the safe navigational management of larger tonnage vessels, utilising the AMC Bridge Simulator.

- Close quarter navigations
- Anchoring a large vessel
- Voyage planning for a large tonnage vessel
- Adverse weather considerations in the navigation and handling of a large tonnage vessel
- Navigation of a large tonnage vessel in a restricted area
Course Approval
The course complies with the requirements of Marine Order Part 3, Issue 6, section 25.1.2 b (i) and 25.4.2 b (i). AMSA approved.
Certificate
An AMSA approved “Safe Navigational Management of Large Tonnage Vessels” certificate will be issued by AMC to participants who satisfactorily complete the course and provide documentary evidence to satisfy the course pre-requisite.
